Democracy, the least bad system.

Sometimes i wonder if we all really care about what matters, about what happens around us.
Sometimes i wonder if we realize that, even in our democracies, we're cheated.
Democracy is no certificate of perfection. Dictatorship, or so-called, is no 100% evil.

I want to compare two facts that happened nearly simultaneously.

Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, is said to be a dangerous communist dictator. He recently organized a referendum in order to modify the Constitution.
He wanted to extend his powers, make Venezuela become a socialist country, be able to censor the media...
Many in the world said he would declare state of emergency and take over all powers if he lost the referendum.
He did loose and did...nothing. Life goes on.

On the 29th of may 2005, France said no to the referendum on the european Constitution. So did the dutch.
What did our new president do? Did he take count of what we said? No.
He urged the european countries to adopt a new treaty - a kind of "light version" of the previous Constitution - wich will be imposed on us by the vote of the congress though the people previously rejected it.
On a theoric point of view, there's something i don't understand.

We should pay more attention to those details that make a democracy look strange.
